In both cases the possible pure-state trajectories are confined to certain regions in Hilbert space. We show that in a properly defined thermodynamical limit almost all states within those accessible regions represent states of some maximum local entropy. For the microcanonical condition this dominant state still depends on the initial state; for the canonical condition it coincides with that defined by Jaynes' principle. It is these states which thermodynamical systems should generically evolve into.", "revisions": [ { "version": "v1", "updated": "2002-01-29T15:14:10.000Z" } ], "analyses": { "subjects": [ "03.65.-w", "05.70.-a", "05.30.-d" ], "keywords": [ "hilbert space", "bi-partite quantum system", "distribution", "accessible regions represent states", "canonical condition" ], "tags": [ "journal article" ], "publication": { "journal": "European Physical Journal B", "year": 2003, "month": "Jan", "volume": 31, "number": 2, "pages": 249 }, "note": { "typesetting": "TeX", "pages": 0, "language": "en", "license": "arXiv", "status": "editable", "adsabs": "2003EPJB...31..249G" } } }
