In traditional models, luminosity has been considered as a function of the spin parameters of pulsars. On the other hand, parameter independent models like power law and lognormal have been also used to fit the observed luminosities. Some of the older studies on pulsar luminosities neglected observational biases, but all of the recent studies tried to model observational effects as accurately as possible. Luminosities of pulsars in globular clusters and in the Galactic disk have been studied separately. Older studies concluded that these two categories of pulsars have different luminosity distributions, but the most recent study concluded that those are the same. This article reviews all significant works on pulsar luminosities and discusses open questions.", "revisions": [ { "version": "v1", "updated": "2013-06-10T09:47:16.000Z" } ], "analyses": { "subjects": [ "97.60.Gb", "97.60.Jd", "97.10.Ri", "97.10.Yp", "98.20.Gm" ], "keywords": [ "luminosity", "radio pulsars", "pulsar luminosities neglected observational biases", "older studies", "discusses open questions" ], "tags": [ "review article", "journal article" ], "publication": { "journal": "International Journal of Modern Physics D", "year": 2013, "month": "Aug", "volume": 22, "number": 10, "pages": 1330021 }, "note": { "typesetting": "TeX", "pages": 21, "language": "en", "license": "arXiv", "status": "editable", "inspire": 1237870, "adsabs": "2013IJMPD..2230021B" } } }
