Variable-temperature measurements of the soliton population allow us to determine the soliton formation energy to be ~60 meV, smaller than one half of the band gap of ~200 meV. Once created, these solitons have very low mobility, even though the activation energy is only about 20 meV; the sluggish nature is attributed to the exceptionally low attempt frequency for soliton migration. We further demonstrate local electric field-enhanced soliton dynamics.", "revisions": [ { "version": "v3", "updated": "2011-04-12T13:27:56.000Z" } ], "analyses": { "subjects": [ "73.20.Mf", "68.35.Md", "68.37.Ef" ], "keywords": [ "atomic structure", "topological soliton", "indium chains", "energetics", "demonstrate local electric field-enhanced soliton" ], "tags": [ "journal article" ], "publication": { "publisher": "APS", "journal": "Physical Review Letters", "year": 2011, "month": "Jan", "volume": 106, "number": 2, "pages": "026801" }, "note": { "typesetting": "TeX", "pages": 5, "language": "en", "license": "arXiv", "status": "editable", "adsabs": "2011PhRvL.106b6801Z" } } }
