After introducing a physically motivated ansatz for duality violations, we estimate their possible size by fitting this ansatz to the tau experimental data provided by the ALEPH collaboration. Our conclusion is that these data do not exclude significant duality violations in tau decay. This may imply an additional systematic error in the value of alpha_s(m_tau), extracted from tau decay, as large as \\delta alpha_s(m_tau) \\sim 0.003-0.010 .", "revisions": [ { "version": "v2", "updated": "2008-12-19T21:28:11.000Z" } ], "analyses": { "subjects": [ "13.35.Dx" ], "keywords": [ "determination", "exclude significant duality violations", "tau experimental data", "hadronic tau decay", "additional systematic error" ], "tags": [ "journal article" ], "publication": { "publisher": "APS", "journal": "Physical Review D", "year": 2009, "month": "Mar", "volume": 79, "number": 5, "pages": "053002" }, "note": { "typesetting": "TeX", "pages": 20, "language": "en", "license": "arXiv", "status": "editable", "inspire": 805132, "adsabs": "2009PhRvD..79e3002C" } } }
