In the absence of a gate potential, there are separate pairs of linear and parabolic bands at low energy. A gate field perpendicular to the layers breaks mirror reflection symmetry with respect to the central layer and hybridizes the linear and parabolic low-energy bands, leaving a chiral Hamiltonian essentially different from that of monolayer or bilayer graphene. Using the self-consistent Born approximation, we find that the density of states and the minimal conductivity in the presence of disorder generally increase as the gate field increases, in sharp contrast with bilayer graphene.", "revisions": [ { "version": "v3", "updated": "2009-04-09T01:42:33.000Z" } ], "analyses": { "subjects": [ "71.20.-b", "81.05.Uw", "73.63.-b", "73.43.Cd" ], "keywords": [ "aba-stacked trilayer graphene", "gate-induced interlayer asymmetry", "layers breaks mirror reflection symmetry", "bilayer graphene", "gate field increases" ], "tags": [ "journal article" ], "publication": { "publisher": "APS", "journal": "Physical Review B", "year": 2009, "month": "Mar", "volume": 79, "number": 12, "pages": 125443 }, "note": { "typesetting": "TeX", "pages": 5, "language": "en", "license": "arXiv", "status": "editable", "adsabs": "2009PhRvB..79l5443K" } } }
