A detailed analysis shows that fluctuations (introduced by elementary nucleon-nucleon collisions) determine which of the exit states is realized. Thus we observe for the first time nonlinear dynamics in heavy ion reactions. Also the scaling of the coexistence region with beam energy is well reproduced in these results from the QMD simulation program.", "revisions": [ { "version": "v2", "updated": "2008-01-18T12:19:26.000Z" } ], "analyses": { "subjects": [ "24.60.Ky", "24.10.Lx", "25.70.Pq", "24.60.Lz" ], "keywords": [ "nuclear reactions", "critical behavior", "heavy ion reactions", "bimodality", "first time nonlinear dynamics" ], "tags": [ "journal article" ], "publication": { "publisher": "APS", "journal": "Physical Review Letters", "year": 2008, "month": "Feb", "volume": 100, "number": 4, "pages": "042701" }, "note": { "typesetting": "TeX", "pages": 0, "language": "en", "license": "arXiv", "status": "editable", "inspire": 759187, "adsabs": "2008PhRvL.100d2701L" } } }
